Next month we will be introduced to kykNET’s new 18h00 telenovela titled Diepe Waters. The telenovela will premiere on Monday 3 October at 18h00. We will have episodes from Mondays to Thursdays. The soap opera is being filmed in Joziburg by Penguin Films (Arendsvlei, Home Affairs) and it’s set in the world of a swimming club called Die Swartmarlyne.

Meet The Cast of Diepe Waters
Diepe Waters cast line-up will be announced on 30 August but the story and headline characters have been revealed.
Here’s an overview from the production… if you were one of the casting directors, who would you cast in the roles below?
Gys Swarts
- The story world is situated in and around a competitive swimming club, Die Swartmarlyne, owned by Gys Swarts.
Rossouw and Jacques
- The Swartmarlyne swimming club is a family business in which both Gys’ sons, Rossouw and Jacques, are involved.
Karla and Johan
- Family businesses are the perfect space for family drama. And to increase the tension, Gys’ grandchildren, Karla and Johan, are also part of the Swartmarlyne swimming team.
- Karla is a young teenager who struggles with the daily pressure of being a champion.
- It’s not without merit either, since her mother, Sanet, believes she can win a scholarship overseas and never expects anything less than perfection from Karla.
- Johan, on the other hand, yearns for his Grandpa Gys’ approval, but is just never as good as Karla is.
Rossouw and Sanet
- Rossouw and Sanet look like a happy couple on the surface, but when an unexpected visitor walks through the door, their everyday normal life is turned upside down.
Jacques
- Jacques, who still lives on Gys’ erf, is the flaming hot coach – all the swimming moms and aqua aerobics aunties fight for his attention. He is kind-hearted and cares deeply for other people.
- It is against the background of this swimming club that we get to know several families who will do everything in their power to keep their heads above water while they hope that their secrets will sink into deep waters.
Zelda Joubert,eghan and Pam
- Zelda Joubert, the owner of the beauty salon Skinvestment, cannot stand Gys.
- This century-old disapproval of Gys gives Zelda a new bounce in her step when she realizes that she should rather keep her enemies as close as possible.
- The fact that the apple of Zelda’s eye, Meghan, is not even her own blood makes it very difficult for Pam, her daughter, to rise above Zelda’s high standards.
Lettie
- Lettie runs her own successful keffie (cafe) and it’s here where our characters find solace for their souls – not only in Lettie’s freshly baked goods, but also on her shoulder.
Henry and Tshepo
- Henry takes on the role as the new caretaker at the club and his adopted son, Tshepo, serves as a major threat to Johan and his reputation.
Nina de Wet ,Wim and Rose
- When Nina de Wet and her parents, Wim and Rose, join the Swartmarlyne swimming club, Karla’s heart simply feels lighter.
- Nina and Karla become best friends and now both of them finally have someone with whom they can share their deepest secrets.
In this community, it is easy to feel like a fish out of water and the characters quickly realize that their dirty laundry cannot easily be washed clean with water.
This means everyone stands the chance of being exposed for who they really are.
